Northbooks

I love office supplies. I mean I REALLY love office supplies. Pens, pencils, markers, staplers, sticky notes, I even own a bone folder that I use to fold the letters that I write. But my very favorite thing, out of all of the stationery supplies that are out there, is a good notebook. Notice I didn’t just say, “a notebook.” It has to be a good notebook. And the Northbook Ruled 5×8 Notebook fits all of my personal criteria for a great notebook.

I have finally had to make a rule for myself when I am out shopping. The rule states that just because a notebook is, “adorable, fun, or funky,” those are not good enough reasons to purchase one. I have many blank notebooks that I have never used because I don’t want to write that first sentence in one. I can never find a reason that is good enough to use one of my favorite notebooks. So my rule for myself further states that in order to get a new notebook, I need to have a purpose for it in mind before I get it. When I found out I was reviewing the Northbook notebook, I decided that it was going to be my health diary. I am struggling with my weight, and I am concerned about the effect that my previous poor eating habits will have on my health. So I am using the Northbook to keep track of my food, my activity level, and my mood.

The Northbook notebook has worked beautifully as my health diary. Keeping track of my habits helps to make me so much more aware of them, and to make better choices. The notebook itself is gorgeous too. The front and back cover are made from 30% post-consumer Kraft paper. I really like the cover – it is blank, and the Kraft paper is a neutral color, so it was perfect for me to create a cover design. I have written a title and added stickers and drawings, but you could do absolutely anything to customize it yourself. As a paper connoisseur, I am happy whenever I find good quality paper to write on, and the Northbook notebook has it. There are 96 acid free pages in the notebook, and I can write smoothly on them with pen or pencil. The pages are college ruled, making it easy to keep track of my daily diary, and I really like the fact that the notebooks are made in Brooklyn, New York and are ecologically friendly.

At 5×8 inches, the Northbook notebook is the perfect size for my purse – I take it with me wherever I go so that I can keep track of my health notes. It would make a perfect travel journal, or an ideal assignment book for a student. The pages are bound very securely together and the notebook can handle being stuck in a book bag or carry-on without being destroyed. The Northbook Ruled 5×8 Notebook would also be a fantastic Christmas gift – you can give them to the recipient just as the come, or you can decorate the covers for a fun and thoughtful gift. Either way, you and your friends are sure to love them.
